When to Fish Trout on Taneycomo

Winter (December - February)

Brown trout become particularly aggressive during their fall and early winter spawn. Keith targets trophy browns with live bait and artificial presentations in deeper pools.

Trophy brown trout season

Spring (March - May)

Spring brings increased water flow as Table Rock Dam generates more power. The influx of cold, oxygenated water triggers excellent rainbow trout action. Stockings from the Missouri Department of Conservation boost the population, providing fast action for anglers of all skill levels.

Excellent rainbow trout numbers

Summer (June - August)

While bass fishing slows in the summer heat, Taneycomo trout fishing remains excellent. The cold dam releases keep water temperatures in the 50s, perfect for trout. Early morning trips are ideal before boat traffic increases. This is a great time for families looking to escape the heat and catch fish.

Cool water escape from summer heat

Fall (September - November)

Fall marks the beginning of brown trout spawning season. Large browns move into shallower areas and become catchable targets. Rainbow trout also feed aggressively as water temperatures optimize. Fall offers the best shot at a trophy brown trout while maintaining excellent rainbow action.
