Water Conditions

Cold February on Table Rock Lake. Surface temperature ran from the upper 30s to mid 40s all month. Water is clear like it always is in winter, six to eight feet of visibility on main lake water. Lake level is slightly below winter pool target. Wind has been manageable on most mornings I fished.

Lake Taneycomo has been classic winter trout water. Cold flows, clear water, and very low fishing pressure. The best month of the year for big browns in my opinion.

What Is Biting

Winter on Table Rock is a trophy game. Fewer fish, bigger averages. The bass that are biting this month have been quality.

Largemouth and smallmouth are deep on bluff ends and channel swings in twenty five to sixty feet of water.

Kentucky spotted bass are stacked on offshore structure. Vertical jigging has produced solid numbers of quality spots.

Taneycomo brown trout have been chewing. A couple of real trophies in the six to eight pound range have come to customers this month. Rainbows are biting steady as always.

Techniques and Lures

The suspending jerkbait is the number one winter bait on Table Rock Lake. Smithwick Rogue in a pearl or clown pattern, cast long, reel it down, and pause. Ten to twenty second pauses between twitches. Patience matters.

A three quarter ounce jigging spoon is deadly when you find a school on electronics. Snap it up two feet, let it fall, repeat.

Football jigs on bluff banks fished slow are producing some of the biggest fish of the year.

Taneycomo brown trout are eating large jerkbaits, big streamers, and live minnows on light line. Patience and slow presentations win in cold water.

Rainbow trout are eating small midge patterns, scuds, and micro jigs under a float.

Hot Areas

Mid lake bluff ends and main lake points with deep water access have been the best bass water. Offshore structure in twenty to forty feet of water holds schools of spots and occasional brutes.

Upper Taneycomo below the dam is where the big browns have been coming from. Low light early and late in the day is when the quality bites happen.

Specific waypoints stay on the boat. Book a trip and I put you on them.
